House Burning Down lyrics by Jimi Hendrix, 1 meaning, official 2024 song lyrics

Oil residue on cooking utensils also ignite, and other combustibles like paper towels, paper or cardboard packaging, and dry dish towels nearby will begin to smolder or burn. Smoke—a deadly cocktail of hot gases, including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water vapor, hydrogen sulfide and unburned hydrocarbons (i.e., ash or soot)—rises up off the flames with the heated air. Many common household chemicals, including gasoline, are highly flammable if kept or used with improper caution. These should be stored in their original containers (with the warning and proper use labels intact), and sealed properly at all times. Keep chemicals and gasoline far away from heat, electrical sources, furnaces, pilot lights and other chemicals with which they could cause flames, including grease.

In Australia it peaked at a modest No. 94, while in the UK, where Talking Heads would release 14 charting singles, it failed to chart.

Two men detained after 11 fires are set in an hour in North Hollywood

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An intense fire erupted at a rubbish yard and spread into commercial-residential buildings, sending a thick plume of smoke billowing into the sky in downtown Los Angeles Thursday afternoon. But the scene was still active as firefighters were engaged in an extended operation to locate smoldering debris in the burned-out building, said Nicholas Prange, an LAFD spokesperson. Intense heat from the blaze started a fire in one unit of a neighboring apartment building. Flames were seen coming from the three-story building when the first units arrived, according to the department. As one of the major hits of Jones' later career, it appears on numerous compilations of Jones' work. Remember, never to attempt to extinguish a serious house fire without professional help, and call your local fire department while you safely evacuate the scene.

Given the high temperatures of large fires, most if not all of the home furnishings may be rendered unusable. The type of construction materials used to build your home will influence the severity of damage. Synthetics like polyurethane, polystyrene, and PVC used in glues, insulation, and plumbing will auto-ignite at temps between 850 and 1075 degrees. At 1000 degrees F, steel plates used in engineered roof trusses will start to buckle and they lose 40 percent of their load-carrying capacity. Newer homes built with engineered wood can experience floor collapse in as little as 6 minutes. "Burning Down the House" is a song by new wave band Talking Heads, released in July 1983 as the first single from their fifth studio album Speaking in Tongues.

The Electrical Safety Foundation reports that 65% of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no working smoke detectors. ESFI recommends smoke detectors should be installed on every level of the home, inside every bedroom and outside every sleeping area. Test your smoke detectors (and your carbon monoxide detectors simultaneously) at minimum twice per year, including replacing the batteries at each inspection, and replace any devices that are more than seven years old. House fires related to heating appliances can happen at any time, though they are unsurprisingly more common between November and March. Between 2015 and 2019, data from the NFPA shows that heating equipment resulted in the second leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries and was the third leading cause of home fire deaths and direct property damage. Portable cooking appliances that produce heat, including toasters and electric griddles, should also never be left unattended while in use.

How Fast a Fire Spreads

Practice your fire escape plan, make sure everyone in your home knows what to do and keep your designated exits clear, clutter-free and accessible at all times to minimize damage and potentially save lives. Even a small house fire that is extinguished quickly can cause thousands of dollars of damage, and while having home insurance can mitigate the financial burden of recovery, there are some that losses no amount of money could recover. Scrobbling is when Last.fm tracks the music you listen to and automatically adds it to your music profile. As Procol Harum's lyricist, Keith wrote the words to "A Whiter Shade Of Pale." We delve into that song and find out how you can form a band when you don't sing or play an instrument. Hits he played on include "I Will Survive," "Being With You" and "Sara Smile." The head of Drake's estate shares his insights on the late folk singer's life and music.

The good news is that most accidental house fires can be avoided with proper education on the causes of house fires and how to practice fire safety. Identifying potential risks within your home and eliminating potential sources that could stoke and spread flames—heat, oxygen and fuel—can help lower the chance of a house fire. As the flames intensify, the smoke and hot air rising off the fire are more than 190 degrees F.

A young boy resembling Byrne takes his place from time to time; eventually, younger counterparts start moving the arms of all four band members to play the music. After the screen goes blank, both young and adult Byrne leave the stage, and the video ends with an extended close-up of Byrne's face projected on a highway at night. Greases, whether produced by food or cooking with oil, are highly flammable and can ignite even without direct contact with flames. Keeping your oven, stove and cookware clean of grease and debris buildup can prevent spontaneous combustion. If a grease fire does occur, do not try to extinguish it with water, as this could cause the hot grease to explode. Similarly, heaters that require fuel, such as kerosene or a gas fireplace, can be extremely dangerous and at risk of explosion if not properly maintained; chimney fires and flue fires are common accidents that are highly preventable with vigilance.

His social media postings and arrest records suggest the immolation stemmed instead from a place of conspiracy theories and paranoia. The fire just a block or two from the courthouse appeared calculated to draw widespread attention, horrifying bystanders and temporarily overshadowing the momentous trial of a former president. The journey that ended with a man setting himself on fire on Friday outside the Manhattan courthouse where Donald J. Trump was being tried seemed to have begun in Florida, with a series of increasingly bizarre outbursts.

Preparedness is key, as accidents can occur, so it is always important to have a fire escape plan in the event of an emergency.

Flames pour through the doorway into the neighboring living room, setting the carpet and upholstered furniture on fire. Synthetics like polyurethane and polyester foam in sofas, pillows and carpets release tremendous amounts of heat. Back in the kitchen, the blaze has penetrated the wall and ceiling and flames travel quickly through unseen structural vertical shafts in interior walls and horizontal shafts between floors. Welsh singer Tom Jones recorded a version of "Burning Down the House" with Swedish pop band the Cardigans for his 1999 collaborations album, Reload. In common with the other tracks on the album, the recording was made with the collaborators' choice of producer and studio, in this case Tore Johansson and Tambourine Studios in Malmö, Sweden.

Here are the top five causes of house fires and how to prevent them from happening to keep you and your home safe. When the smoky layer inches down to the top part of a doorway, an open window or a vent, it quickly streams out of the room. Then the poisonous smoke and heated air travels through hallways and up stairwells to the second floor. "Kickstart My Heart" is about all the ways Motley Crue gets their blood flowing without drugs. It was inspired by their bass player Nikki Sixx, who claimed he had to be revived with a shot of adrenaline to the heart after an overdose. "The program is studying solutions," the GAO said, noting that those included certain "aircraft design changes, lawn surface treatments, and operational procedural changes to minimize landing zone risks."

Candles should be placed on a non-flammable surface at least 12 inches away from other flammable items and kept away from playful children or accidental knocking over, and never left aflame while sleeping. Electrical distribution and lighting equipment are a leading cause of home structure fires and are often the result of inadequate, loose or faulty electrical connections. Short circuits, loose or sparking connections, poorly installed, old or overheated wires, circuits and lighting fixtures that are improperly matched to the current are all risk factors that could easily be missed by the untrained eye. Small grease fires may be extinguished with a fast response of turning off the heat, smothering the fire with a metal lid or sprinkling baking soda or salt on the flames.

According to Glenn Gaines, the Deputy U.S. Fire Administrator, fires kill more Americans each year than all natural disasters in the United States combined. And even if individuals are spared, fire can cost tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage—up to $50,000 to rebuild a kitchen engulfed in flames. It only takes 30 seconds for a small flame to turn into a full-blown life-threatening fire.

The Government Accountability Office, a watchdog agency, noted in a June 2020 report on the matter that the military had "yet to demonstrate that it can meet the requirement to land on the White House South Lawn without causing damage." The rotors and engine exhaust from the Sikorsky-manufactured VH-92 Patriot will occasionally burn the grass when it lands, an issue that was initially identified in 2018, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday. A bulk of the fire was extinguished by 4 p.m., but firefighters were still there dousing hot spots. All 11 of the fires were set within a half-mile radius of one another in North Hollywood in a one-hour span. The house used in the video is located on Myrtle Street in Union, New Jersey. Max Illidge (credited as Max Loving), vocalist of the band 40 Below Summer, and Rockets Redglare appear as the younger selves of Byrne and Jerry Harrison, respectively.

A White House official told Business Insider that the respective offices involved in the program "are working diligently to ensure a smooth, safe, and timely transition" from the current fleet of helicopters to the VH-92. The VH-92's lawn-scorching problems were first discovered in 2018 during the Trump administration, kick-starting an effort to resolve the issue. Because of this unrelenting problem, the new VH-92 is only carrying White House officials or Secret Service personnel instead of the president himself and is restricted to landing on paved surfaces, the report said.

We break down the sequence of events in a typical kitchen fire to show how quickly the devastation can spread. In early 2021, the Department of Defense's operational testing and evaluations office determined that "the damage was found to be primarily due to engine exhaust, auxiliary power unit exhaust, and discharge of aircraft fluids onto the grass." The new Marine One helicopters, part of a program that the US spent $5 billion on, still can't carry President Joe Biden because there's still a risk they will scorch the White House lawn, according to a new report. The VH-92 Patriot is landing only on paved runways for now, flying missions with White House officials or Secret Service staff instead of carrying President Joe Biden. The problem is down to an issue first identified in 2018 — the helicopter’s spinning rotors and engine exhaust sometimes scorch the grass where it lands.

Everything in the room bursts into flames—wood dining table, wood and upholstered chairs, cookbooks, curtains and wall decorations. The oxygen in the room is virtually sucked out (used up during the rapid combustion); glass windows shatter. The upstairs fills with thick, hot, noxious smoke and the stairwell is impassible. When you have flashover in a room, temperatures can reach up to 1,400 degrees F—now, all of the other rooms in the house are severely at risk.

Remember to let these items cool completely before storing them away, keep them clean of crumb and grease buildup (both inside and outside the appliance) and keep them unplugged and in the off position while not in use. The kitchen presents myriad flammable factors that should never be left unattended or unsupervised while cooking, especially on the stove or oven. By the time a fire occurs, it is highly dangerous and difficult to extinguish. On some records you hear all this clash and bang and fanciness, but all we’re doing is laying down the guitar tracks – then we add echo here and there, but we’re not adding false electronic things. We use the same thing anyone else would, but we use it with imagination and common sense. It’s constantly changing dimensions, and up on top that lead guitar is cutting through everything.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking was—by far—the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries in the United States between 2015 and 2019, resulting in nearly half of all accidental house fires. So what happens in those first few minutes of a fire that allows it to go from manageable to out-of-control? This Old House has broken down the sequence of events in a typical kitchen fire to show how quickly the devastation can spread and how high temperatures can get. Follow along to learn how you can best protect your home, your loved ones, and your own life.

Our house fire example starts on the stovetop since cooking fires account for almost half (44 percent) of all home fires. A few seconds is all it takes for a pot or pan to boil over the rim, spilling flammable oil-laden contents directly onto the cooking flame or red hot electric burner. In a few hundredths of a second, grease or other fatty substances ignite into flames. The flashpoint of many common cooking oils is around 600 degrees F, but when gas or electric burners are placed on high, temperatures can approach 1000 degrees F.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Authorities arrested a second man Thursday in connection with burning down a home on Cleveland’s West Side. During the last meeting, Ghaben was asked whether he would preserve any historic artifacts from the house before the demolition. He said he would be willing to pull windows and doors and donate them, according to the village. On Wednesday, the village's Historic Preservation Commission is set to consider approval of the demolition of the house at 225 E. Four commercial units and the residential units above them sustained fire damage, according to LAFD.

minutes, 30 seconds to 4 minutes

Heat from the fire radiates to other parts of the kitchen, heating up tables, chairs, shelves, and cookbooks. If you’re still in the room, this hot, smoky air can instantly burn the inside of your breathing passages. Plus, fires generate highly poisonous gases, including carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide (created when insulation, carpets, clothing, and plastics burn). Electric Ladyland includes a cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", which became the Experience's best-selling single, reaching number six in the UK and number 20 in the United States. Firefighters were initially pouring water onto the flames burning in a rubbish yard to the rear of a row of buildings with commercial businesses on the ground floor and residential units above. The track was released as the lead single from Reload on September 13, 1999, and became a hit across Europe and Australia, reaching No. 1 in Iceland, No. 2 in Sweden, and the top ten in Australia, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Norway and the United Kingdom.

The single was backed with Jones' live recordings of the EMF song "Unbelievable" and the Beatles' "Come Together", as well as remixes of "Burning Down the House" by Delakota, Pepe Deluxé and DJ Scissorkicks. Fires from smoking also tend to be more deadly as they often ignite while the resident is asleep as the result of smoking in bed or on a sofa. Mattresses are highly flammable—and though many modern models come with flame retardant protections—it only takes a single stray ash to set ablaze blankets, clothing, carpet or other flammable fabrics to create devastating results. Whether or not your house will be livable after a major fire will depend on many factors, and you will need to obtain permission from the Fire Marshall to reenter your home. After a major fire, dry wall is left dehydrated and crumbling and will need to be replaced.

What’s most alarming is that home fires have become more dangerous and devastating recently because of the flammability of the materials in the house. Thirty years ago, you had on average about 14 to 17 minutes to escape a house fire, according to Consumer Safety Director John Drengenberg of Underwriters Laboratories (UL). “Today, with the prevalence of synthetic materials in the home, occupants have roughly 2 to 3 minutes to get out,” said Drengenberg. Fire testing conducted by UL has found a home with mostly synthetic-based furnishings can be entirely engulfed in less than 4 minutes. In as little as 30 seconds a small flame can become a major fire that ravages a home and threatens the lives of the people inside.

Older VH-3D Sea King helicopters will continue to transport Biden from the iconic, traditional South Lawn takeoff spot. Until last summer, Mr. Azzarello seemed to have lived a relatively quiet life. After high school, where he was a member of a bowling team, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009, with degrees in anthropology and public policy.

Outdoor cooking with grills, barbecues, grease friers, fire pits and wood stoves can all be a source of unwanted house fires as well. Be sure to position these tools away from the side of your home and nowhere near a wooden fence or any other highly combustible materials, and never leave them unattended while they are actively producing flames or heat. As the fire grows higher and hotter, more flammable objects and furnishings will ignite from spreading flames, including wooden cabinets and countertops, wallpaper, hanging baskets, and curtains. With the fire moving beyond the stovetop and other areas beginning to burn, a denser plume of hot air and smoke rises and spreads across the ceiling.

Use a fire extinguisher if available, though the cleanup of chemicals will be extensive. Sheryl Crow's longtime songwriting partner/guitarist Jeff Trott reveals the stories behind many of the singer's hits, and what its like to be a producer for Leighton Meester and Max Gomez. "Heat from the auxiliary power unit and/or engine exhaust continue to damage the lawn under certain conditions," the GAO wrote at the time. A year later, an extended live version of the song is a highlight of the band's landmark concert film Stop Making Sense.

In September of 2023, commemorating the film's 40th anniversary, a remastered version was released across America in IMAX theaters, and later in conventional theaters worldwide. Heating devices are highly combustible and should never be left running unattended. Always read and follow the instructions precisely for any type of heating device and routinely check that it is in good condition before use.

Printing down the side of a long sleeve is another common placement, especially on hoodies. The standard size for printing on a sleeve is 2” x 11.25”. However, depending on the look you want, you can size up to 2.5” x 14” for a larger, bold design size. In shirts, the waist measurement is usually the bottom hem of the shirt.

Shirt Size Types

Fonts that are too small may become unreadable on larger sizes, while excessively large fonts may overpower smaller sizes. Strive for a harmonious balance that maintains the integrity of your design across all sizes. Customizing t-shirt sizes helps differentiate your brand from competitors.

Beyond the basic guidance offered by the T-shirt design size chart above, we want to take a closer look. Our goal is to break down each print location, offering more detailed tips for both designing and placing transfers in this part. You will see the same sizes over and over again when you’re searching for new clothes, whether you see numbers or letters. Some brands may have their own idea about what a “medium” shirt is so that you can have a medium shirt from two different labels and find big differences in the size of each shirt. Clothing companies have their own sizing charts, which you can use to look at exact measurements and get the exact right fit for your body. Women can certainly wear men’s shirt sizes and sometimes, even kid shirt sizes.

While these size suggestions aren’t foolproof, they definitely give you a good idea of where to start when printing t-shirts. You want your custom shirts to look as awesome as possible and that starts with the right print size. When designing for a global market, cultural sensitivity is vital.

Outfit Idea: Playful Pop of Color with a Fusion of Sporty Chic and Streetwear Vibes

Ensure that the t-shirts meet safety regulations and standards, such as using non-toxic dyes and ensuring proper fabric thickness to prevent transparency. Additionally, avoid using embellishments or small parts that could pose choking hazards. The shoulder measurement helps determine the width of the shoulder area. To measure the shoulder width, place the tape measure at the base of the neck and measure across to the outer edge of the shoulder bone.

Anything exceeding the regular dimensions of a Full Front is deemed an Oversize print. Take measurements while the child is standing up straight and tall with their arms hanging naturally at their sides. Take the measurement across the chest under the armholes to get an accurate width. Measure from the edge of the collar bone down past the wait to the top of the hip to get an accurate length measurement. If you haven’t got a shirt that fits the toddler, you can make a little game out of getting a measurement. Have the toddler hold up a sheet or large towel in front of themselves, with their arms stretched out wide.

Select a color palette and typography

It’s an ideal spot for showcasing typographic designs, making it perfect for promoting businesses, events, or a specific cause. Extending beyond T-shirts, this placement suits polo shirts and button-down tees, allowing for the display of small illustrations and texts without overwhelming the chest area. Many opt to print on pocket tees, situating the logo above the pocket for a chic touch—perfect for cute pocket designs, school or team uniforms, and company logos.

Typically, only one ink color is included free when screen printing or applying a heat transfer to custom shirts. A good rule is to stick with colors of a lighter or darker scale. Sublimation printing involves transferring designs onto polyester fabric using heat and special dyes. It offers vibrant colors and durability, but it may have size limitations depending on the specific sublimation printing equipment used. Consider the size constraints of sublimation printing and ensure your design can be accurately and effectively transferred onto t-shirts of different sizes.

Let’s look at how to make sure your shirt design size is the right one for the best possible outcome. The inner label is a blank space perfect for promotional branding or any other additional information. Of all the shirt design sizes, this is definitely the smallest, but it could be one of the most important ones for promoting your business – it gives extra space for branding elements. Now let’s cut to the chase and take a look at the T-shirt design size chart. Keep in mind, these recommended values are based on medium-sized shirts and serve as a general guidance. Feel free to adjust the size according to the actual size, specific scenarios, or your personal preference.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro review

blackmagic design pocket cinema camera 6k pro

For example, below are two photos taken with a 50-mm lens, first with the PCC6K Pro and the second with the new Cinema Camera 6K; I stood in the same spot in my tiny living room. The full-frame sensor can capture significantly more of my living space. For some people like me who often have to shoot in cramped spaces, this is nothing short of a godsend.

Sony announces Custom Grid Line license for Alpha cameras

I doubt Nikon will overtake Sony or Canon in sales and thus the market for people with compatible lenses will be smaller. But unfortunately, not all is jolly good with this new Electronic View Finder. After working with it for quite some time, I must say that the new EVF is “leaving a lot to be desired”. With its 1280×960 resolution and 3200pixels per inch, it is simply NOT sharp enough to act as a focusing aid tool. I’m really curious to hear and find out how you guys get along working with it.

So I settled on using the lens “as is” (without the rear anamorphic adapter) and the experience was interesting. March is a crazy month, especially when it comes to the weather. Sun, snow, strong winds, you name it, we have it all here in Vienna. So what does the weather have to do with a camera review? Customers can even use the display as a focus assist station. The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is the second camera in the Pocket Cinema line. The original Pocket Cinema Camera shoots resolutions up to HD in RAW or ProRes and did actually fit in some larger pockets, though not with a lens attached. This new camera, on the other hand, wouldn’t fit in a giant’s pocket. It’s a big, clunky camera. The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has a 5-inch touchscreen and the industry-leading menu and operating system, the Blackmagic OS. Its form-factor is that of a mirrorless hybrid video/photo camera, but, ironically, it doesn’t shoot photos.

And BTW, I asked the question to SteveV4D whether this picture is what HE meant by "misleading advertising" and afterwards he wrote it himself ! So who are you to quote my comments and mark them as "misleading " while somebody else made this claim ? Makes no sense at all, unless you have really good reasons to defend this company by all means and TRY to knock down any critical comments, which you clearly failed to do ... It’s for people who take a knowledgeable interest in their craft and prepare each shot before hitting record. I thought video people shot video specific devices just because it was more convenient do to audio inputs, rigging, etc, but that the actual video output of a mirrorless camera would be superior. They typically envision the look, locations, and mood of their stories and then rent or buy a camera that allows them to carry out their creative vision with the least fuss.

After that, the HFR button will let you hop back and forth between your off-speed rate and the standard one. This is handy if you mainly want your project in, say, 30 fps but occasionally want to play around in 60 or 120 fps to get slo-mo video, or drop it down to 5 fps to get some killer smearing effects. Most notably–so notable they put it in the name–this camera can shoot up to 6K footage, which is hard to find at this price point. Well, if your editing rig can handle it, you get a lot more flexibility to crop, zoom, and motion-track footage in postproduction, without sacrificing picture quality.

Should I buy the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro?

The Conservation Alliance is auctioning one as a fundraiser, bundled with products and services from Peak Design, SmugMug and Flickr. The Legacy Survey of Space and Time camera recently completed by the US Department of Energy's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory risks making your camera setup seem inadequate. Above $2500 cameras tend to become increasingly specialized, making it difficult to select a 'best' option. We case our eye over the options costing more than $2500 but less than $4000, to find the best all-rounder.

Introducing the Next Generation Handheld Digital Film Cameras!

From here, you can set the recording format, as well as configure your audio set up. All settings are retained even when the batteries run out, and you can use an SD card to quickly transfer settings from one camera to another so they match perfectly on multi-camera shoots. In addition to shooting video, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can also capture high resolution stills. Simply press the dedicated stills button to record 21.2 megapixel images on the 6K models or 8 megapixel images on the 4K model.

At any rate, we achieved decent handheld results using stabilized Panasonic lenses, but an external gimbal would definitely be preferred. That would be ideal, but not everyone in the market for a $1,300 camera is thinking that way. What we really like, however, is the sheer number of options you have for the audio settings. You can have both an external mic and onboard mic be active at the same time, and you can choose which channel which microphone goes to and independently control levels for each. Want both onboard mics to record to a mono channel while an external mic records to another?

On the back of the camera are two very useful buttons. One is an instant auto exposure button and the other an autofocus button which uses the slow and old-school contrast-detect AF system. Blackmagic went for Canon EF, and there are lots of lenses available at all budgets and in all styles, from bargain, AF nifty 50s to premium cinema primes and everything in between.

You can also opt for the house special sandwiches made with imported salumi, including the Il Mortazza. The mortadella, grilled eggplant, burrata and arugula make for a one-in-a-million bite that’s creamy, fatty, earthy and balanced all at once. The Godmother at Bay Cities is one of those dishes that you have to try before you can really call yourself an Angeleno. Piled high with salami, mortadella, prosciutto, coppa, ham, provolone cheese, mild or spicy peppers and served on freshly baked, housemade bread, it’s a sandwich that draws lines almost every hour of the day. There is a shortcut, though, and you can take it by ordering from Bay Cities’ website and picking up your colossal sandwich instead. Inside, a gourmet market offers Italian specialty foods, like fresh pasta, olive oil and cheeses.

If it's your first time, we recommend the Ben's pastrami or the slightly spicy Kobi Dan, which comes in a pita wrap. Out in Whittier, there’s nothing quite like Aaron and Sarah Melendrez’s cozy neighborhood deli and gourmet mini-mart, where the made-to-order sandwiches use bread from Bellflower’s Hey Brother Baker and a slate of chef-preferred ingredients. Think mouth-watering navel cut pastrami from RC Provisions (who also supply Langer’s and Brent’s, albeit tailored to each shop’s preferences), line-caught wild tuna and smoked Kurobuta ham.

Binder learned from Mathieu's grandchild that the dip was more of a "work in progress." Apparently, Mathieu was looking for a way to soften day-old French bread because customers found it too hard to chew. Choose between two very nontraditional and flavorful breakfast sandwiches at Gjelina Take Away. First up is the turkey egg sandwich featuring a fried sunny-side-up egg, rapini pesto, and fontina on brioche. And then there’s the GTA egg sandwich with braised kale, melted gruyere, a fried egg, bacon, and hot sauce on an English muffin.

The kettles contain some 40 lbs of beef bones, onion, carrot, celery, garlic, thyme, leek, and salt, which cooks for 24 hours. The key component is the pan juice itself, which begins with the pans Philippe's uses to roast the meats. Philippe's uses the same pans throughout the day during the roasting process, leaving the mirepoix and garlic extremely caramelized by the end of the day, Binder says. The pans are simply deglazed with a bit of water, and then the intensely flavored contents are added to the kettles. Stef and Chris Schaldenbrand’s breakfast sandwich pop-up is a requirement on a weekend morning. AM Smash’s sandwiches are always served in an English muffin, house-made sausage patties, and plenty of cheese.

Other ingredients include white vinegar, paprika, salt, and mustard flour. "It will clear your nostrils," Binder says, "and a lot of people over do it the first time." The "dip" in the beef double-dip, the jus is made each day for use the following day. Binder explains that there are two 50 gallon steam kettles going 24 hours a day, seven days a week cooking a beef stock which serves as the base of the jus.

The falafel is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside, packed with fresh flavorful herbs like parsley, cilantro and garlic. Smothered in hummus and topped with pickled turnips and radishes, marinated cabbage and onions, the entire sandwich is on the house soft flat bread. The fried potato shoestrings are a nice addition to add texture to every bite.

Order the sandwich with sausage and egg brekkie sandwich with egg, cheese, and a house-made sauce. Reminiscent of a New York City deli, Art’s Deli is right off of Ventura Blvd., and a staple in the area since 1957. The Super Reuben sandwich is filled with both pastrami and corned beef (why choose one?) piled high on top of two slices of grilled rye bread, with a hefty amount of sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and melted Swiss cheese.

What takes this sandwich over the edge from good to great is the Bub & Grandma’s fresh baked focaccia bread. They’re open Tuesday-Saturdays and only provide contactless ordering, which you can do through their website starting at 11 a.m.. Take whatever notion you have of gluten-free bread and throw it out the window. The bread at Breadblok is fresh, flavorful and lacks any of the gummy consistency of the store-bought GF bread you may be familiar with. Now, top that bread with salty prosciutto, creamy gruyere cheese, and garlicky aioli and you’ve got a sandwich that no matter what your dietary restrictions are, you’re going to love. You’ll be shocked by how filling the baguette is (it’s the psyllium husk used to make it) so you can likely make two meals out of your sandwich.

According to a preliminary investigation released Friday by the Committee to Protect Journalists, nearly 100 journalists have been killed covering the war in Gaza. Israel has defended its actions, saying it has been targeting militants. Former Vice President Mike Pence has refused to endorse Trump’s reelection bid. “The last time I was in DC I left my cocaine at the White House. Luckily, the president was able to put it to good use for his State of the Union,” Jost said, a reference to the outlandish claims on the right about Biden’s energy. A new report shows residents living in the Los Angeles and Long Beach area are breathing the unhealthiest air in the country.

Without further ado, here are L.A.’s very best sandwich shops (excluding the bagel and fried chicken varieties, which deserve lists all of their own)—because the humble sandwich is worth celebrating every day of the year. When it comes to dipping, customers can order their sandwiches as a single-dip, wet, or double-dip, which Binder says is by far the most popular order. Where a single-dip sandwich means only the top half of the sandwich bread is dipped in jus, a double-dip means that both the top and bottom halves of the bread are dipped.

Half-market stall, half-Vietnamese restaurant, we head to this small Chinatown shop whenever the need for a baguette smeared thick with pâté strikes. There are eight versions of the sandwich here, ranging from crispy pork belly to ones filled with soy sauce-soaked tofu. They’re usually a little misshapen but obviously made with care, and for $5 a pop, one of the best deals in town. Earlier in the day, the focus was on AI as ther Washington AI Network hosted a lunch featuring a conversation with Haddad and Joelle Pineau, vice president of research at Meta. Guests included Lynda Carter, Chris Krebs and Symone Sanders Townsend, and the event included the demonstration of Spotty, a robot dog. Many roast beef devotees swear you can’t find a good sandwich outside the North Shore, while others argue they’ve found their go-to shops outside the beef boundary lines.

La Brea’s Burgers 99 decided that less is more with its no-frills menu. One can get classic burgers or the star of the show breakfast sandwich with American cheese, fried egg, and thick-cut bacon. Op-Comic: How crying is actually good for you Los Angeles Times

The store’s namesake, Ted Londi, opened a new restaurant in Peabody after our Boston.com readers’ form ran, but nine fans of the Londi’s name showed up to give the North Andover shop a shout out. They specifically love the buttered rolls and the three-way sandwich. Boneless, skinless chicken breast grilled to perfection, then topped marinara sauce & sauteed bell peppers and onions. Wide Eyes Open Palms has outstanding breakfast options, including a biscuit sandwich with lots of egg and love tucked right inside with eggs, arugula, and plenty of chives. This Torrance deli does it all with subs, breakfast burritos, and something called the wakey-wakey. It’s the messiest and most delicious creation with a runny egg breakfast sandwich on deeply griddled toast.

Newswire

Tessi’s is no different, with its extensive menu of pizza, subs, seafood dinners, and of course roast beef sandwiches. But why it stands out among roast beef devotees is the beef piled high and drenched in condiments. Iceberg and romaine lettuces, red cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, croutons, black olives, mozzarella cheese and a freshly grilled boneless chicken breast. Choice of dressing (served on the side) Serves one as an entree salad, or two to three as an accompaniment to a meal. Though the new Johnny’s has added a few Jewish deli-inspired items and dropped the second half of the name, the juicy, flavorful pastrami sandwiches are still the main focus here. While you can continue to get the French dip-style version that uses thinly cut pastrami, the move here is the thick-cut pastrami served on Tartine marble rye, which can be further jazzed up with reuben toppings, mustard or coleslaw.

The bread is baked in-house, and the fillings hit that cliche California sweet spot of farmers' market ingredients and well-sourced meats. The tuna conserva is our old faithful because of how the roasted peppers, sprouts, salty tapenade, and cucumbers ooze into the sourdough and top-shelf tuna. But we also work the banh mi, tomato confit, and meatball sandwiches into the rotation. The originators of the French dip, this is of course, the house specialty. The tender, USDA prime roast beef is sliced by one of the “carvers” working there and served on a French roll, dipped in the natural gravy of the roasts.

A trick to reduce stress? Spend 20 seconds a day doing this easy practice

Since the top half of the bread is thinner, the carver uses the tip of their knives to dip it into the jus (using their fingers would certainly result in burns, Binder says). The sandwich is served on 100% paper plates, which Binder says have a nostalgic feel. He adds that "all the customers realize that it's going to be messy" to eat a dipped sandwich.

Breaking News

That’s exactly what we get every time we ask readers for their roast beef sandwich recommendations. Thinly sliced roast beef made right here on the premises, mustard, mayo and pickles. Everything you love about our famous lasagna, breaded and deep fried. To say this tuna is life-changing may be an overstatement, but try it first and then you’ll see what all the rave is about. The sandwich has big chunks of tuna, moist (even without mayo), mixed with cucumber, tomato and red onion all on warm ciabatta. The bright yellow exterior plus picnic umbrellas makes this otherwise somewhat missable cafe stand out (that and this tuna sandwich, of course).

In Southern California, global influences and plant-based options abound. Here are some of the Southland’s best breakfast sandwiches sorted from North to South. Jeff’s Table isn’t the first deli hidden behind a liquor store in Highland Park—they’re not even the first one to occupy the space they’re in. But hidden or not, this is one of our favorite places to get a sandwich in the neighborhood. Order a side of the spicy, creamy Thai peanut mac salad to balance everything all out. OK, we may have made that one up, but in a city filled with as many sammy options as Los Angeles, it’s the motto we live by.

Egg Tuck

Lady & Larder is the type of spot you might see on a lifestyle blogger's curated Instagram feed. This pink Santa Monica shop caters to all of your wine, flower, and artisanal cheese needs, but its secret sandwich menu makes it a top priority for your lunch rotation. From 12-3pm, you’ll find sandwiches that sound like a high-end charcuterie board stuffed into a chewy baguette. You can’t go wrong with the Day Dreamer slathered with fromage blanc and thinly sliced turkey, or the Yes, Honey with sweet ham, mustard pickle relish, and a heaping pile of shredded cheddar. Chef Eric Park’s bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is a standout at this busy Silver Lake shop. But the chopped cheese is a SoCal version of an NYC classic on a pressed hero roll with chopped beef, American cheese, grilled onions and jalapeños, shredded lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mayo.

Sandwiches here are uncomplicated and straightforward, with high-quality ingredients as king. Our go-to order is the #5, a baguette topped with imported prosciutto, mozzarella, and arugula, but the off-menu El Conquistador is also a great option. It’s filled with chorizo, prosciutto, Manchego, and a few pickled peppers—the perfect addition to any picnic, or meal to celebrate your breakup with Netflix. This upscale Italian sandwich counter in Beverly Hills makes massive, luxurious sandwiches that are the epitome of decadent. That sounds a bit dramatic, but it’ll make sense when you see these fluffy slabs of focaccia lined with prosciutto parma, truffle cream, olive paté, and white onion agrodolce.

The sandwich is so tall, you may not be able to fit it all in one bite. But each messy bite you get, will make it worth the $29 sticker price. There were 34 readers who said Nick’s, which has been in the roast beef sandwich-making business since 1975 stands out above the rest. Readers rave about the tender beef and the perfect balance when it comes to a classic three-way — with cheese, James River BBQ sauce, and mayonnaise. Making roast beef sandwiches runs in the family at Bella’s, where owner Harry Kanellos told Boston.com he grew up working in his dad’s roast beef shop in South Boston. Now, his restaurant is a favorite on the North Shore, highly ranked by the Facebook group North Shore Beefs, and was worthy of a shoutout from 10 readers.

Sandwiches come on loaves of Bub & Grandma’s and are named after NPR hosts like the Terry Gross, which is filled with roast turkey, green chili aioli, a jalapeño/radish slaw, and pepper jack cheese. We’re also big fans of the Steve Julian, which is Wax Paper’s version of a bánh mì. With its shredded pork, crunchy cucumbers, and miso aioli, this sandwich is a little spicy and completely fun. There’s nothing quite like biting into a breakfast sandwich from the Yeastie Boys first thing in the morning. The choices are vast but the Game Over with soft scrambled eggs, peppered bacon, and beer cheese and jalapeno spread on a cheddar bagel sets the perfect tone for the day. You can order a decent version of these Puebla-style tortas at your neighborhood taco truck, but you’d miss out on the perfectly constructed, absolutely gargantuan creations at this Van Nuys lunch staple.

We love their kuku sabzi, an herb-based frittata, or the juicy beef koobideh on thin, chewy sangak bread. Also, come any day of the week and experience a front patio that turns into the social heart of the neighborhood each afternoon. We always hope that reboots are as good as the one the people behind Mizlala pulled off at this historic walk-up window in West Adams. Johnny's Pastrami combines everything you want in an old-school deli stand (a fast food-style menu, exceptional pastrami, life-affirming matzo ball soup) with nice touches like serving their sandwiches on Tartine marble rye. We particularly love the French Dip pastrami, which is about as thick as a football and perfect to split.

Some staples — all on the North Shore, no surprise — received several votes, so we featured them at the top of our guide. For some, what makes or breaks a roast beef shop’s sandwiches are the amount of sauce and other toppings they dress it with. There are some diners who are roast beef purists, preferring the old guards, while others say to hell with nostalgia when opting for the newer additions. As a final touch, many customers will add a bit of the Philippe's signature house-made French mustard, which Binder describes as "incredibly hot." The mustard is based on Mathieu's family recipe, and has remained unaltered over the years. While the ingredients are a closely held secret, Binder confirms that despite the fact that many suppose there's horseradish in the mustard, there's none.

Cheddar cheese, bacon, and spicy may set off the Bangin’ breakfast sandwich at Hilltop, now with four locations in Inglewood, Eagle Rock, Downtown, and the original in View Park/Windsor Hills. This daytime West Adams spot puts applewood smoked bacon, folded egg, avocado, American cheese, and a secret sauce between toasted brioche. The breakfast sandwich is served on an English muffin with truffle cheese, hashbrowns, an Impossible sausage patty, cheese, avocado, and Just Egg replacement.

Symphony of the Seas

Referred to as the Discovery Class, these ships are reportedly going to be somewhat smaller, so it can replace the aging Vision and Radiance Class ships. Royal Caribbean ordered its sixth Oasis Class ship in 2019, and then with three Icon Class ships on order (and maybe a new class of ship coming too), it seemed like the Oasis Class was done. The unnamed Oasis Class ship will follow Utopia of the Seas, which debuts later this summer.

Allure of the Seas has a few significant differences from other Oasis Class ships, as her amplification has been indefinitely postponed due to Covid-19. Those dining at Hooked on Seafood can start their meal with starters such as Fresh-shucked Oysters, Clam & Crab Chowder, and Ceviche. Entree highlights include the Messy Fish Sandwich, Drunken Mussels, and Maine Lobster Roll. The Solarium on Harmony of the Seas differs from other Oasis Class ships in that she does not have a pool. She still has four jacuzzis, but guests looking to take a swim must head to the main pool deck. Allure of the Seas is one of two Oasis Class ships with Sabor, a Mexican specialty restaurant and tequila bar, which is located in the Boardwalk neighborhood.

While all are great, the newest are going to be the biggest, best and freshest, with the newest and latest and greatest amenities. The older ones, like 2009’s Oasis of the Seas, are still amazing — just different. Both the spa and fitness center are expansive, and the spa alone offers not just treatment rooms, where you can find all of your favorite spa services, but also relaxation rooms, steam rooms, a sauna and a kid-specific spa. The Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center may not feel like it deserves its own ranking as a neighborhood on these ships, but that’s only what you’ll think at first glance. Central Park is more of an oasis (get it?) with lots of lush greenery and high-end dining options and shopping. When the first Oasis class ship was revealed in 2009, critics doubted that Royal Caribbean could really pull off these massive ships in a way that would remain enjoyable for passengers.

The Solarium bridge wings offer a fantastic view for sailaway or sunset. The Mason Jar, a brand new restaurant in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, is found on Wonder of the Seas. Like Symphony of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas also features an Ultimate Family Suite. It is bigger than the suite on Symphony, with three bedrooms and a movie/game room that can be converted into a fourth bedroom. The Playscape is an underwater-themed playground with climbing walls, slides, nets, interactive murals, games, and nooks and crannies to explore.

Other Engine Issues in the Royal Caribbean Fleet

Every decade or so, a cruise line will put out a new class of ships that are designed to be, typically, bigger, better and more impressive than its past cruise ships. Everything you need to know about Royal Caribbean's Oasis class cruise ships, with comparisons and onboard features. Ever since Oasis of the Seas debuted in 2009, these cruise ships have been the incredibly popular with the public. Their size captures the imagination, and the experience onboard delivers great family vacations. What are your thoughts on Royal Caribbean building a 7th Oasis Class ship?

Because of the slower speed, the ship did not arrive at Port Canaveral until 2 p.m. As initially planned, so guests lost just one hour of port visit time. Royal Caribbean Group has announced that it has ordered a 7th Oasis class ship, which is scheduled to be delivered to its brand Royal Caribbean International in 2028. French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique has entered into an agreement with the cruise company to construct the mega ship. The order is contingent on financing, which is expected to be completed later this year. The most awarded ship in the world is stealing the spotlight again for entertainment, dining, family activities and more, it’s filled with endless ways to make every moment incredible.

Allure of the Seas Cruise Ship to Make Oasis-Class Debut in Galveston

Guests onboard were notified by announcements made by the ship’s captain, as well as a letter delivered to their staterooms, of the need for the speed adjustment. Proceeding through the English Channel, Oasis of the Seas stopped briefly in the Solent so that 300 shipyard workers who were on board doing finishing work could disembark. She then left for her intended home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[50] The ship arrived there on 13 November 2009, where tropical plants were installed prior to some introductory trips and her maiden voyage on 5 December 2009. Forget everything you thought you knew about beach days, because this private island destination is raising the standard to a whole new level. Experience elevated island vibes while lounging in The Bahamas’ only private overwater cabanas. And take your vacation to new heights — literally — in a helium balloon ride above the island.

The Lime & Coconut bar was also added to the pool deck, which serves a variety of tropical drinks such as the Watermelon Rita, Blue Hawaiian, and signature Lime & Coconut cocktail. The pool deck on Oasis of the Seas was transformed into a Caribbean-style pool deck during the amplification, with colorful decor, comfy seating, casita lounge areas, and extra jacuzzis. One of the most unique bars on Oasis Class ships is the Rising Tide Bar, which continuously moves up and down from the Royal Promenade on deck 5 to Central Park on deck 8. Select Oasis Class ships also offer Battle for Planet Z, a laser tag arena, onboard. The arena is glow-in-the-dark and sure to be a fun activity for kids and adults.

Both are open throughout the day, with select activities such as pickleball and basketball tournaments listed in the Cruise Planner. The Ultimate Abyss is a 10-story slide that transports guests from the sports deck to the Boardwalk neighborhood. The slide incorporates lights, sound effects, and music as guests twist and turn at 9mph to the bottom.

Oasis Class ships have a wide variety of suites available, including Grand Suites, the Owner’s Suite, AquaTheater suites, and loft suites. Unlike on other Oasis Class ships where the Windjammer is relatively small, the Windjammer on Wonder of the Seas is the largest in Royal Caribbean's fleet and wraps around the entire Boardwalk neighborhood on Deck 15. Allure of the Seas has Blaze, an additional nightclub lounge, on Deck 4. She is the only Oasis Class ship without the Wonderland specialty restaurant onboard. Diamond members may enjoy this venue, as it is a two story venue with huge windows overlooking the Boardwalk neighborhood. Despite not having these signature activities, Allure of the Seas still offers many signature activities onboard like rock climbing, mini golf, ziplining, the FlowRider, etc.

The Oasis-class ships surpassed the earlier Freedom-class ships as the world's largest and longest passenger ships. Oasis of the Seas is also 8.5 metres (28 ft) wider, and with a gross tonnage of 225,282, is around 70,000 tones larger.[14][15] Oasis-class vessels can carry over 5,400 passengers. Not many details are known about the new vessel, which is expected to be delivered in 2028. The new vessel is anticipated to feature innovative designs and amenities building upon previous iterations of the Oasis-class.

Popular destinations include Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Alaska, and many travel companies take care of everything for you, essentially making it all-inclusive. For many in the US, getting to the islands can be daunting — there are very few direct commercial flights, and it can take almost an entire day. But it's hard to beat the country's luxury accommodations and gorgeous landscape. The Maldives, a remote set of islands in the Indian Ocean, offers a plethora of resort options for couples and families, but Baglioni Maldives is my favorite.
